Software
General software
During the course, several general software systems
are used:
- Excel (with the "solver" installed)
- R [Homepage]
Students are recommended to make sure that at least
Excel (with solver) and R are installed. An
introduction to R is available. Furthermore, a
reference card created by Tom Short is
provided. Nils Toft has created a number of video tutorials
illustrating how to use R.
Specific software
Windows
Most of the specific software packages used in the course are Java programs.
A Windows Installer package, Advanced
(64 bit).msi, is
available for simultaneous installation of the following software programs:
- The TV Show simulation demo
- A simple Markov chain simulation tool
- Sow monitor application demo
- The SimFlock simulation
model. [Homepage]
- The Esthauge LIMID software system. [Homepage]
- The MLHMP software [Homepage]
In addition to the programs mentioned, the installer
package also installs the Java Runtime Environment version 8.0. Having
installed the package an entry called "Advanced Herd Management" is
available on the Windows "Start" menu. It is recommended to install the
package.
The version mentioned above is for 64 bit Windows
system. If you have a 32 bit system, you may download an earlier version
from here.
Mac
Since the software package is entirely based on Java
it can in principle be used also on a Mac computer. A package for Mac,
AdvancedMac.zip, is therefore provided.
Unlike the Windows version, it has not been tested.
A few additional programs may be used in the course.
